Why a sports scholarship isn’t the way to go

Ken Campbell is a senior hockey writer at The Hockey News and author of Selling the Dream: How hockey parents and their kids are paying the price for our national obsession. He says parents need to invest in post-secondary education first and foremost.

Often asked by parents what they need to do for their son/daughter to get a scholarship, his response is simple, ‘if you take all the money you’re investing in hockey and put it into an RESP, your son (or daughter) won’t need a scholarship.’

We spoke with the hockey expert about Beyond the Blue Line, here’s what he had to tell parents.
