Hockey vs. Education Savings

CST Beyond the Blue Line - Hockey versus Education
Canadians are stick-handling the cost of hockey and the importance of saving for higher learning.

How to balance the Cost of Hockey and Education

The message is loud and clear: parents are still struggling to score the right balance when it comes to spending money on hockey and other activities vs. other priorities like education savings.

2 in 3 parents say they or someone they know are borrowing money or using their retirement savings (RRSP) to keep their kids in the game and/or other extracurricular activities.  (2016 CST Leger Survey results*)

Meanwhile tuition costs for post-secondary education keep going up, with only half of Canadians saving for their child’s post-secondary education.

Families clearly need help managing the costs of both hockey and education.

For the past four years CST Consultants Inc, one of Canada’s largest Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) providers, has been surveying Canadians about their attitudes on this very subject as part of Education Savings Week. #EduSavWeek

CST’s goal is to spark an important debate HOCKEY VS. EDUCATION. #BeyondtheBlueLine

The Beyond the Blue Line campaign has been featured in the media on the CBC, CTV National, Global News, Your Morning, The Toronto Sun, The Toronto Star, The National Post, 680 News, CFRB 1010 as well as Breakfast Television.

We want Canada to take a serious look at their priorities, provide you with help to manage your expenses, save for your child’ post-secondary education, plus gain some great education savings insights from an unlikely place:  the hockey world.

*The Leger survey of 1,571 Canadians was conducted November 7 to November 11th, 2016, using Leger’s online panel, LegerWeb.  A probability sample of the same size would yield a margin of error of +/- 2.5%, 19 times out of 20.
